CWG 2026: Rishikanta Singh Bags Silver In Men's 60kg Weightlifting Event (Facebook)

New Delhi: Weightlifter Rishikant Singh Chanambam clinched silver in the men's 60 kg category in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026. He lifted 264 kilograms, which includes 121 kg snatch and 143 kg clean & jerk. He also created a Commonwealth Games record by lifting this weight. This is India's second medal in the games. Jhandu Kumar, in para powerlifting, won the first medal for India. 

How was the performance of Rishikant Singh Chanambam?

Rishikant's performance in the whole event was outstanding. He lifted 121 kilograms in the snatch round and created a new Commonwealth Games record. In the clean & jerk round, he had to face some difficulty. Despite that, he lifted 143 kilograms in his only successful attempt. After combining his highest lifts in both events, he won the silver medal with a total score of 264 kilograms.

What did Rishikant Singh Chanambam say after his performance?

He said, " I fought very hard, and today I won a silver medal. I am very happy. This medal that I won today isn't mine; it belongs to everyone, to all of India. To everyone who supported—the Indian Government, the Indian Weightlifting Federation, the supporting staff, and my circle of friends... this is for everyone..."

Further, Rishikanta Singh said, "I take my Guru's name, Vijay Sharma, under whom I train, the Indian Chief Coach. He taught us a lot about how to compete and how to train. I had no doubts about my training. I was completely focused... first, I dedicate this to our Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi because he has given a lot of benefits to our sports..."
